Nature of dead animals
The natural recycling of dead animals is - like the recycling of dead wood - essential. As food for e.g. badgers, raven and mice, but also for a great diversity of insects and fungi. But what is the public thinking about dead animals in those nature areas ? How do you experience dead animals during your walks in nature? As valuable or as disgusting?
With the project "Dood doet Leven" (dead gives life) ARK Nature and the Dutch State Forestry Department (SBB) wants to give the public the opportunity to learn more about the natural recycling of dead animals. With this we want to give more space for another type of management where in carcasses of dead animals are not removed but left in nature. In the nature area Groenlanden (part of the Gelderse Poort - nearby the city Nijmegen) roedeer (traffic victims) are brought back here into nature. The recycling of those animals is registered by a live webcam. The best movies and pictures you will find here.
