Space for large scavengers

Dead animals are indispensable for nature. A dead animal performs the function of a crowded restaurant for many species. Including impressive species like raven, foxes or vultures, but also smaller species like carrion beetles, flies and moths.

Dead animals are fulfilling the last chain in an ingenious food web. The death of an animal is giving opportunities for the survival of other animals. However large dead animals in nature are not a common practice in the Netherlands.

The project “Dood doet Leven” (Death gives Life) is focusing on the return of large dead animals and large scavengers in nature.

The recycling of dead animals is registered by cameras. The best pictures and videos can be seen on Flickr and on YouTube .
